For over 20 years, the Harvard Public Opinion Project has produced America’s leading youth poll. It is the largest youth poll in the country, capturing the political temperature of Americans ages 18 to 29. The project is led by Harvard undergraduates, who release their findings twice a year in the spring and fall.
This year, HPOP conducted its first round of polling and sampling between late February and early March, receiving responses from a random sample of 2,010 young Americans on a wide range of issues. Now, with the 2024 presidential election well underway, their results come at a vital time for public discourse. The Harvard Political Review, in collaboration with the Harvard Public Opinion Project, aims to shed light on the perspectives of America’s youth.
The finest members of HPR’s editorial and tech teams have come together to bring you this project. Together, we have produced a series of eight articles analyzing key points from this semester’s Harvard Youth Poll. These articles capture the unique nature of contemporary American politics, covering topics ranging from the increasing salience of the “alpha male” to the significance of the southern border.
This collection of articles was produced by journalists from the same age demographic as the respondents they sought to analyze. We hope that young journalists reporting on issues that align with their own experiences will resonate with their peers and foster a deeper understanding of these issues for older generations. Our insights offer an authentic lens with which to explore the dynamics shaping today’s political landscape. It is with much gratitude to our readers that we present The Harvard Political Review and Harvard Public Opinion Project’s 2024 collaboration.
